Ancient Egyptian female kings, including Hatshepsut and Nefertiti, really did rule against all odds. Given this social reality in the ancient world, how then did women negotiate roles or power and authority? Addressing some of the causes of social inequality in this lecture, Prof. Kara Cooney will go beyond myth and legend to shed light on these female pharaohs and reveal their historical legacy. Featured Speaker: Jessica Gronert Mission-Driven Leadership: From Service to Impact Jessica Gronert is a Senior Business Development Manager for Leidos, leading the company's growth in support of USSOCOM. She began her career in Defense after graduating from the Air Force Academy in 2009 and served on active duty until 2016. She still serves in uniform in the US Air Force Reserve. Jessica has been with WIDGTB since 2022 and served as the Deputy Sponsorship Director and Secretary. Jessica has experience as an Instructional Systems Designer, supporting SOCOM's enterprise-wide exercise and training program, and as Instructor-Course Director, educating Air Force Special Operations air commandos in preparation for operations in the CENTCOM AOR. She also served as the Senior Intelligence Officer for AF Special Tactics and paved the way for women's inclusion into the Battlefield Airmen career fields by being the sole female to complete all physical requirements in the 2015 SECDEF-directed Women in Service Review. Jessica has a deeply rooted passion for service to her fellow mankind, being raised in a household that prioritized community service projects and giving up her bed for visitors. Moved by the collapse of Afghanistan, she founded a non-profit to assist with evacuation efforts of at-risk women Afghans in 2021. Every Thursday from 4 to 8 pm, the Tampa Museum of Art offers Art on the House where admission prices change to pay-as-you-will, and visitors choose whatever admission price they want to pay. Bring the family and celebrate 100 years of art in Tampa with exhibitions that emphasize ancient, modern, and contemporary art. Beginning at 4 pm every Thursday, walk up to the Welcome Desk and tell the Visitor Experience and Engagement Representatives the admission price you chose to pay for your visit to the museum. Any donation amount is welcome.

Harry Cohen, Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners Harry Cohen has dedicated his life and career to public service.  A lawyer by profession, he served as Chief Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court for Hillsborough County from 2005-2011, as an elected member of the Tampa City Council from 2011-2019, and as general counsel to the Clerk from 2019-2020. Harry Cohen is a member of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners representing District 1, a position to which he was elected in November 2020 and re-elected in November 2022. Read more about Harry here.  Nancy Millan, Hillsborough County Tax Collector Nancy C. Millan made history as Hillsborough County's first female and Hispanic Tax Collector when elected in 2020, and voters affirmed her leadership as she ran unopposed for her second term in 2024. Throughout her distinguished 35-year career, she has been instrumental in enhancing customer service, accessibility, and innovation. As Tax Collector, she oversees a team of over 400 employees across nine locations, serving 1.5 million residents with essential services like the issuance of driver licenses, vehicle registrations and property tax collection. Read more about Nancy here. Bob Henriquez, Hillsborough County Property Appraiser Bob "Coach" Henriquez, Hillsborough County Property Appraiser, has deep roots in the Tampa Bay community. In 2012, he was elected as the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser, a position he has been re-elected three times. Bob is actively involved in various associations and boards related to his field and community, including serving as Secretary of the Florida Association of Constitutional Officers and President of the Property Appraisers' Association of Florida. Read more about Bob here. Lisa McLean, Hillsborough County Public Defender As Public Defender, Lisa brings practical experience, unwavering integrity, and compassionate leadership to the office. She oversees a team of approximately 220 employees, including about 120 attorneys, and remains focused on delivering effective and efficient legal representation while treating every client with dignity and respect. Under her leadership, the office is tackling the root causes of crime, addressing the barriers to successful reentry, and implementing forward-thinking reforms, including responsible use of artificial intelligence and strong fiscal stewardship.
